World of Science Sparks Curiosity at Chartwell
Chartwell Shopping Centre was transformed into a hub of curiosity and discovery in the July 2026 school holidays, as families came together to explore the wonders of science during the return of the much-loved 'World of Science' activation.
Running from Monday 6 to Friday 17 July 2026, the free school holiday activity gave children and families the opportunity to learn, experiment and explore through a combination of interactive exhibits and live science shows.
With families looking for fun things to do with kids in Hamilton during the school holidays, the 'World of Science' activation offered families the opportunity to try something different while discovering that science is all around us, from the natural world we see every day to the ingredients found in our kitchen cupboards.
A highlight of the two-week activation was the programme of daily live science shows. The shows explored two very different areas of science, giving children the chance to discover something new with every session.
Am I Living? encouraged young scientists to take a closer look at the world around them and explore the characteristics that define living things. From humans and other animals to plants, the show investigated what these different forms of life have in common and what makes them living. Through engaging demonstrations and interactive learning, children were encouraged to observe, question and think more deeply about the natural world.
The second show, The Scientific Pantry, brought the fascinating world of chemistry into the kitchen. Everyday ingredients became the starting point for scientific discovery, demonstrating that chemistry isn't confined to laboratories or classrooms. Through fun experiments and demonstrations, children could see how ordinary items from the kitchen cupboard can create surprising and exciting scientific reactions.
Between the live shows, families had the opportunity to explore a range of interactive exhibits, allowing everyone to get hands-on with science and investigate different concepts at their own pace. The exhibits encouraged children to be curious, ask questions and discover how things work through play and experimentation.
For parents, grandparents and children alike, the 'World of Science' activation provided an opportunity to spend quality time together while discovering something new. From watching a live demonstration to getting hands-on with an interactive exhibit, there was plenty to spark curiosity and create memorable moments.
"At Chartwell, we're passionate about creating experiences that bring families together, while giving children opportunities to learn, play and explore. The return of the 'World of Science' activation reflects our commitment to providing engaging family activities and memorable experiences for our community, while reinforcing our position as a place where families can do more than shop," says Linda Jackson, Marketing Manager at Chartwell Shopping Centre.
Delivered in partnership with Science Roadshow, the activation brought scientific concepts to life in a fun and accessible way, and we hope our young scientists left with a little more curiosity, a few new questions and a renewed excitement to keep discovering the world around them.
